Mixed-Use Buildings
(Mixed-Use Buildings – Hourly Energy Dataset)
Dataset Purpose
This dataset acts as a base data service for algorithms oriented towards the energy management of mixed-use buildings that combine housing, offices, shops, and services in the same structure.
The dataset allows for the analysis of complex energy profiles with multiple consumption patterns and schedules, enabling algorithms for shared self-consumption, cost allocation, optimization of renewable energy use, and community storage management, all within a Compute-to-Data environment that guarantees data sovereignty and transparency.
Scope and Technical Considerations
Given the heterogeneity of uses and the sensitivity of residential and commercial data, the dataset is designed to minimize the exposure of individual information:
- Data is filtered by a specific time period (day, week, or month)
- The resolution is hourly
- Only strictly necessary energy fields are included
- No direct exposure of residential, commercial, or occupancy information
This approach allows for energy complexity management without compromising privacy.
Dataset Type
- Private Dataset
- Non-downloadable
- Accessible only by authorized algorithms
- Governed under local energy community rules
- Executed via Compute-to-Data on Empower-X
Users do not access the raw data directly.
Dataset Content
The dataset contains hourly energy data associated with electrical supply points powering mixed-use buildings and their different functional units.
Each record represents the energy behavior of one supply point (CUPS) at a specific hour, without revealing sensitive information about end users.
Dataset Format
The dataset follows a fixed tabular format, common to the rest of the ecosystem datasets.
Dataset Structure
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
cups_id | Supply point identifier (anonymized if applicable) |
timestamp | Date and time of the record (hourly resolution) |
energy_consumed_kwh | Energy consumed in that hour (kWh) |
energy_generated_kwh | Energy generated in that hour (kWh, if exists) |
energy_exported_kwh | Energy exported to the grid in that hour (kWh, if exists) |
Generation and export fields may vary depending on the building and the existence of shared self-consumption.
What Each Field Represents
-
cups_id Identifier of the supply point associated with a unit or subsystem of the mixed-use building, anonymizing the identity of homes, offices, or shops.
-
timestamp Allows for analysis of differentiated and overlapping hourly patterns of residential, commercial, and service consumption.
-
energy_consumed_kwh Electrical energy consumed by the unit during the indicated hour.
-
energy_generated_kwh Energy generated locally (mainly community photovoltaic), when applicable.
-
energy_exported_kwh Surplus energy exported to the grid, relevant for self-consumption allocation and community balances.
Relation to Algorithms
This dataset feeds algorithms oriented towards:
- Integrated analysis of mixed energy profiles
- Optimization of shared self-consumption
- Fair and transparent allocation of energy costs
- Management of community storage
- Detection of imbalances between uses
- Support for local energy communities
Algorithms access only the fields necessary for each analysis.
Security, Governance, and Audit
- The data does not leave the secure environment
- Dataset download is not permitted
- Access regulated by energy community policies
- Auditable executions
- Results always aggregated or derived
- Use of verifiable records for allocation and traceability
This design allows for transparency and trust without compromising privacy.
Summary
The mixed-use buildings dataset provides a secure, governed, and hourly view of consumption, generation, and energy surpluses in structures with multiple uses. Designed as a private data service for Compute-to-Data, it enables the execution of algorithms for shared self-consumption, fair cost allocation, and community energy optimization, enabling efficient and auditable local energy communities without exposing sensitive information.
